The Jenks Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 146 and the administration of The City of Jenks began to negotiate the Jenks Police public safety contract several weeks ago because the current contract between The City of Jenks and Jenks FOP 146 is coming to an end (July 1, 2010).

On Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the last negotiations meeting, Randy Ewing of the City of Jenks City administration, told representatives of the Jenks Police FOP Lodge 146 that there “may not be a successor agreement between The City and the FOP.”  Ewing further stated that that the City Of Jenks has been in contact with the Tulsa County Sheriffs Office (TCSO) and is considering a contract with TCSO to provide public/community safety services for The City of Jenks.

This means that 16 full time, loyal, dedicated Jenks police officers could either lose their jobs or be “transitioned” into the TCSO as deputies.  Officers of The Jenks Police Department are devoted, committed officers who want to continue their contracted employment with the City of Jenks and continue to provide citizens local community safety services.

The Jenks Police Department has served the community for over 50 years and has helped to keep citizens safe and the crime rate low.  The Jenks Police Officers have a vested interest in our community; we live in Jenks; we shop in Jenks; our children attend school in Jenks.  We want to continue to keep OUR community safe.

Should TCSO take over community safety functions of the City of Jenks , the time it takes a deputy to arrive at an emergency call could be triple the amount of time it takes a local officer to arrive on scene, if not more.  The current average arrival time of a police officer is approximately one to five minutes.  If you or your family is having an emergency situation, do you want that time to triple?

We need your support; let’s keep the Jenks Police Department Local!

As Jenks Police Officers we pride ourselves for being able to take a personal approach to keeping our citizens safe which is demonstrated by our fast and safe response to emergency calls for service, maintaining professional and personal relationships within our community, keeping a list of watch orders (vacation checks, out of town residents, suspicious activity, etc.), checking on members of our community (businesses and residences) during every shift to make people feel safe, patrolling neighborhoods, knocking on doors to let people know they left their garage doors open, or simply having a cup of coffee with members of our community.

We want to continue to give YOU, the citizens of the City of Jenks , this kind of professional, personal, dedication and service.

Please contact your city officials and let them know how you appreciate and want to continue to have the service and dedication of YOUR police officers.
